I have noticed that most of my 1880-O Morgan Dollars have the small 'o' mintmark, but one of my coins has the large 'O' mintmark similar to the 1881-O, 1882-O and subsequent years. Your 1880-S Morgan Silver Dollar was minted by the San Francisco sector of the US Mint and carried the 'S' mint mark underneath the eagle's tail feathers. It contains 90% silver, 10% copper, and weighs 26.73 grams. Its diameter is 38.1, its in brilliant uncirculated condition, and it comes close to a MS63. The 1880-S Morgan Dollar is one of the most common coins in the series. It is fairly easy to find up to MS66 condition. In MS67 to MS68 they are much scarcer. 1880 O Morgan
The 1880-O Morgan Dollar (Buy on eBay) represented the second year of production for the new silver dollar at the New Orleans Mint. The mintage level almost doubled from the prior year, however examples in higher uncirculated grades still carry a premium. This is especially the case for examples which have been graded MS65, which can sell for $20,000 or more at auction. The major grading services have not graded any 1880-O silver dollars higher than this level.
1880 Morgan Silver Dollar History
An overdate variety is noted for this issue in the Red Book, where traces of the digits “79” are seen below “80”. However for most grade levels the 1880-O “80/79” carries only a slight premium above the standard appearance.
